Compare two DNS resolvers

Site owners and system administrators can check a domain or access before changing settings. Compare the DNS answer already returned by Cloudflare and Google for your domain.

Compare the DNS answer already returned by Cloudflare and Google for your domain. Use it free in your browser with no account required.

How to use

  1. Type the domain you want to check, for example one whose zone you have just edited.
  2. Pick the record type to compare: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SOA or CAA.
  3. Start the comparison and read the Cloudflare and Google answers side by side in your browser.
  4. Look for a difference between the two resolvers, which suggests an update is not visible everywhere yet.
  5. Run the comparison again later to see whether both answers have become identical.

Example

You have just created a subdomain for a campaign and want to know whether it is visible yet. The comparison shows whether both resolvers give the same answer; a mismatch means you should wait a little before sharing the address.

Where processing happens

Everything runs inside your browser: the comparison is computed on your own device and the tool sends no data out. Nothing to install, no account to create, and the result shows up straight in the page.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my two resolvers give different answers?

Each resolver keeps answers for a while before asking again. After a zone change, one may already know the new value while the other still serves the older one.

Which record type should I choose?

Pick the one you just edited: A or AAAA for an address, CNAME for an alias, MX for mail, TXT for a text value, NS for name servers, or SOA and CAA depending on your case.

Does the result prove that propagation is finished?

No. It only shows that these two resolvers agree at this moment. Other resolvers, including those used by your visitors, may still return an older answer.
