See the tonal spread and spot what is clipped

With Levels histogram, photographers and visual creators can check an image before its next use. See the tonal spread and spot what is clipped.

See the tonal spread and spot what is clipped. The tool is free in your browser and shows the result without asking you to create an account.

How to use

  1. Pick a PNG, JPEG or WebP image from your device to feed the tonal analysis.
  2. Select the channel you want to inspect: red, green, blue or luminance only, depending on your question.
  3. Run the processing button and let the graph display how the levels are distributed.
  4. Compare both ends of the graph to see whether highlights or shadows are crushed.

Example

A photographer prepares an overexposed landscape shot. They load the file, choose luminance only and check whether the sky creates a spike on the right. If it does, details may be lost, so they can rework the original before publishing. This quick check helps them decide whether to reshoot or adjust the file.

Limits and formats

Where processing happens

All analysis runs inside your browser. The chosen image is not sent anywhere and no account is needed. You can therefore inspect a confidential visual without handing it to an outside service. Nothing leaves your device during the operation.

Frequently asked questions

What does a spike on the right mean?

A spike on the right means many pixels are very bright. If the curve touches the edge, some areas may be clipped and their detail cannot be recovered. Check the original or retake the shot if possible.

Why separate the red, green and blue channels?

Each channel shows how one primary color is distributed. A color cast or a local saturation problem may be invisible in luminance alone. Comparing channels helps you spot an overly cyan sky or crushed reds.

Does the tool change the original file?

No, it only calculates and displays information. The file you selected stays untouched on your device. You can run several analyses without any risk of overwriting your image.
